Today on day 191 (or so) of my life as an entrepreneur I need to create content so compelling that anyone who reads it will INSTANTLY want to be part of the beta program for my site, NeverMissGift which launches in a few weeks. To get the first round of beta users I’m targeting my network of friends, colleagues, mentors who have assured me they all want to help. But let’s be honest – it has to be appealing enough for them to give up their time. Thank god for Apple products, which I’m using to lure people in.

I have a working assumption about my network that if I reach out to 100 people to ask for help, 10 will respond and another 10 will if offered the right incentive. So that’s a 20% help rate. I’ll let you know if I’m off on that.

So far I’ve selected the email service (MailChimp) for it’s ease of use, the fact that it’s free under a certain volume, and recommended by my design firm, who is working on the template as we speak.

But content is king (as they say) and now I have to figure out what to say to make people bite.

Below are the two versions of content for the beta promotion I’ve developed – one that’s a little tongue in cheek (puppy), one that’s to the point (no puppy). If you want to vote on which you prefer, I’m all ears (puppy pun intended).

Dear x,

Can I bend your ear for a minute?

If you’re receiving this email, you know I’ve been developing a business that helps well-meaning, busy people buy birthday and holiday gifts for the children in their life (i.e. nieces, nephews, godchildren, friend’s kids, etc.). My site, NeverMissGift takes on the work of finding, packaging, and delivering distinctive, custom matched children’s gifts while keeping the giver informed and in control the whole way.

The site is live today and you are invited to be part of the Beta program to experience a site that takes on your gifting intentions while taking work off your plate.

What’s do I get for being part of the Beta program? Glad you asked!

  1. Assurance that your gifting intentions will be done;
  2. Free wrapping & shipping during the 4 month Beta period;
  3. Entry into a drawing for an iPad 3 just for registering 2 children;
  4. An iPod shuffle after meeting the Beta program requirements and buying 3 gifts through NeverMissGift;
  5. My undying gratitude.

What do you mean by ‘Beta program requirements’? You’re paying attention!

  1. Go to the site, check out the gifts and review the FAQ to see how it works;
  2. Register at least 2 children for entry in the iPad 3 drawing by September 15th;
  3. Purchase at least 1 gift by October 31st and complete a brief survey;
  4. Complete a second brief survey at the end of the beta period;

I built NeverMissGift to help busy people tackle an important “to do” in life. Ready to enjoy gifting made easy? Start by clicking HERE.

Thanks!

Cristina

aaaaand version 2….

Dear x,

Have you ever sent a child’s birthday or holiday gift late or missed the date entirely? I have.

If you know that sinking feeling of a gift fail (or the guilt in sending the belated gift), consider yourself invited to be part of the beta launch of my site, NeverMissGift. NeverMissGift allows busy, well meaning people to register birthdays & holidays of the children in their life (nieces, nephews, godchildren, best friends’ kids, etc.). As occasions come up, NeverMissGift finds gifts that match the child’s profile and your budget, notifies you along the way, wraps the preferred gift, and delivers on time.

No more last-minute-good-enough-gift-scramble. NeverMissGift tackles a key “to do” in life by taking work off your plate.

Here’s what you get for being part of the beta program:

  1. Assurance that your gifting intentions will be realized;
  2. Free wrapping & shipping during the 4 month beta period;
  3. Entry into a drawing for an iPad 3 for registering 2 (or more) children;
  4. An iPod shuffle after meeting the Beta program requirements and buying 3 gifts through NeverMissGift;
  5. My undying gratitude.

Here’s what you need to do meet the requirements (and hopefully get that iPad!) of the beta program:

  1. Go to the site, check out the gifts and review the FAQ to see how it works;
  2. Register at least 2 children for entry in the iPad 3 drawing by September 15th;
  3. Purchase at least 1 gift by October 31st and complete a brief survey;
  4. Provide feedback via another brief survey at the end of the beta period;

Ready to say goodbye to the last-minute-good-enough gift scramble? Start by clicking HERE.

Also, if you know anyone that might be interested in being in the beta, feel free to forward him / her this email.

Thanks!

  1. prefer the puppy…..

    • Thanks!

  2. As long as the email is going to friends, family and others with whom you have at least connection, go with the puppy.

    • Thanks for the comment – appreciate it!

  3. Ditch the puppy and use this as your attention grabber:
    “Are you a bad aunt?” and then in the body you can say “Of course not. We all have the best of intentions, where we struggle is in executing. With soccer games, homeroom parties, mixed families, extended families, secret Santas and friends it’s no wonder we feel like need a spreadsheet and a clone to cover it all! ……….

    • Great suggestion – thanks!

  4. I like the first one and… if you still need beta testers, I’d like to increase your help rate (and get an ipod shuffle)

    • Hi Christina – I’ll add you to the list! The announcement will be coming soon!

  5. Im struggling with this so hard right now. I want a puppy but my entrepreneurial lifestyle prob wouldn’t be good for it. :(

    P.S. Love your content :)

    Rob
